Happy New Year every one!

I got home from my trip to visit my family last week. We managed to make it through the holidays with no disasters this year (there've been crazy health things the last three years which I'm glad to skip this year).

I did drop my laptop and totally crack the screen but that's why I bought a warranty that covers accidental damage for three years. Hah! And I got to send it in while I was at home so it was delivered back to me on the 2nd. I got a little sick at the end of my vacation but I seem to be better now. Stomach issues are just not fun, especially while flying and being sensitive to smells while stuck in an airport and on a plane...ugh. It was all I could do not to retch while my rowmates were eating the dinner the airline gave them. I refused mine and breathed through my mouth for a while.

It was a fun vacation. It's always nice to see my family, even though they drive me bonkers. My nieces and nephews almost outnumber my generation. My sister-in-law discovered that she is having another boy. They are thinking the name will be Isiah (or some spelling of it). I'm pulling for Isiah James since I think they sound nice together. We'll see though. They switched to Samantha for my niece (from Alyssa) a week or so before she was born.

I got my grades while I was gone: 4.0. Woohoo! Yay! We'll see if I can keep it going. Next quarter is probably not going to be easy with the two lab classes and all. And I found out last week that my multicultural issues class was canceled because only 10 people enrolled for it. Only one of the other sections doesn't conflict with my classes and it starts at 10:30 am which means making sure I leave the house by 9 am two days a week (I'd still get to keep my Mondays off schedule though). There are online sections but I'm not sure about those... I need to think about it some. I am kind of leaning toward the online class now. Aha! They are all full! So I'm taking an evening human relations requirement class instead.

Now my schedule is a little extra weird since my 4-6 T/TH class was the one canceled and I'm replacing it with a 6-8 pm TH class. At least I get to keep my Mondays off schedule.

I found my list of required classes from my registration appointment before I left and discovered that it does actually say I have to take the Computer Information Systems class. As I don't feel like I need to be taught how to manage/create computer filing systems or how to use Power Point, Excel, and Word I really need to make an effort to find my adviser (who is the manager of the program I want to join) and get her to let me out of this class. I really don't want to take it. It will be extensively boring.

Hmph. Oh, hey, my adviser sent me email 11 days after I sent her the original query (and called her and left a message) and I'd already given up hearing from her. Well, we'll see how the new email goes, she says she'll be checking her email to hear from me.

Aha! My adviser emailed me back and I don't have to take the CIS class. Woohoo! Worried for nothing. At least it fits in with my Jan 4 horoscope.

I haven't started work. My remote access is the current holdup. I hope I'll be able to start working soon.

I didn't make the rowing holiday challenge at all. I joined the January challenge and did a workout last week when I was finally feeling over my stomach issues but it was really hard. I got a 13 week program from the C2 UK site but it looks like it may be too much for me right now. I was in lots of pain after that workout (hips and knees, man, it's hard to row when they hurt) and for the last couple of days I've been having a lot of upper torso soreness for some reason.

I'm going back to the website to get a slightly more realistic set of workouts. These are all around 1.5 hours but I think I'd be better off sticking with stuff between .5 and 1 hour.

Interesting. If I tell the module I want to lose 15 kg, it gives me shorter workouts for 20 weeks but if I say I want to lose 10 kg it gives me longer ones for 13 weeks. Well, I'll change to the 20 week one this week.

I've also got a 12 week start-jogging thing that I'm contemplating since it would be good to do some cross training and I hear that jogging and rowing go well together. Rowing is not a weight bearing exercise but jogging/walking would be. And hey, I can be a slow jogger. I'm a slow rower so I've had practice! I'll give it a shot and see how it goes. No harm in trying and getting into the habit of taking a walk, at least, every day would be good and this is what it starts out as...

I looked around Craigslist for apartments but, bleah.

Ok. I should go do stuff.
