It's been an exceptionally quiet day at work, except for a brief time at the beginning where we were getting a whole bunch of STAT orders for two patients... I hope they're ok.

So now's a good time for catching up! I seem to always have to do that, huh? Sometimes I just don't have time at work or feel like it at home and eventually there's too much to remember!

New Years Day was nice. I slept in a little and eventually Kevin came over to pick me up. The plan for the day was drinks and Rock Band. And food. We had our traditional pork roast with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. I forgot the black eye peas at home. Aw. We had a very nice time, anyway! Rock band is always oodles of fun, even if there are occasional negotiations over who gets to sing next or who has to sing the song no one has ever heard before (I do, apparently). Eventually Kevin took me home and I slept.

That weekend happened to be a long weekend for me (I do love my 3 day weekends). On Saturday, Chrysoula and I went to see Sherlock Holmes. It was awesome! I may just have to read or listen to some of the stories now.

I totally can't remember what I did on Sunday. Oh! I slept in and then got up and ran around doing errands before the stores closed. My poor cats needed cat litter.

That first week of January was a normal week at work.

Then I had a two day weekend! Normally, it would have been a 1-day weekend but work had finally scheduled me to finish up my training in order entry and in the small bits of secondary processing I needed to know to work at the other two satellites (there's one in Bellevue and one in Renton). It had been scheduled to be 3 weeks of Tuesday through Friday training, which was fine with me, but then it got changed to 4 weeks of Tuesday through Thursday training. I was prepared to work M-F for the rest of January but now I don't have to. Yay!

I may not always be happy about my 1-day weekends but I do like my 3 day ones and I really really like having Fridays off every once in a while for errands and stuff. My car is in desperate need of an oil change...

I'd been kind of wanting to go out so on Saturday, we all went out to Red Robin for food. Afterward, Kevin and Ray and I went to see Daybreakers. I enjoyed the movie but some parts of the plot were just silly, especially toward the end. It was very very pretty though.

On Sunday, I slept. Seriously, I think I was only awake for a few hours out of the day. I do keep feeling half run down, like I'm coming down with a cold that never quite presents itself, and I think it just really caught up with me then.

The second week of January is when I started my training! The trainer I'm working with likes to leave early so we start at 2 pm every day (well, a little after; I can't park in my parking garage until after 2 pm). Which means I get out of work at 10:30 pm! It's nice to leave early, but I kind of wish I didn't have to get there quite so early. :)

On Thursday, I even went over to CKR's and Kevin and I watched [REC]. I found that watching a spanish movie with subtitles is different for me than watching any-other-language movie with subtitles because I can understand at least a little spanish so I kept trying to make out what they were saying while at the same time reading the subtitles. It was a little distracting at first. Anyway. Some bits of the movie were silly but overall I thought it was interesting (the characters were refreshingly pragmatic about certain aspects of the movie). I'd heard there was a sequel that would build on some of the stuff from the end of the movie and I'm looking forward to that. I thought it was in production but it appears to be done already. Now we'll just see how long it takes before they release it here. It took forever for them to release it here. It was stupid. I can't remember if there's anything about an american remake of the sequel or even their own version of a sequel.

Saturday, Chrysoula and I planned on watching some True Blood and we made it through another two episodes. I believe we only have three left in the season, so woohoo! I'm not quite as interested in slapping everyone upside the head as I was at the beginning of the season. And I'm very happy at plot developments which hopefully mean Eric will be around more. He's a lot more interesting than Bill.

Sunday I had a phone date with Becky! We got a chance to catch up. Then I ran errands and made food and watched TV. Then I took a nap, which probably wasn't the best idea since then I couldn't sleep when I tried to go to bed a few hours later. Heh. Especially since I woke up with a terrible stiffness in my neck, on the left side which is my bad side. I hoped it would relax while I slept but when I got up for work it was still there. About halfway through my shift, it seemed to finally feel better, so I was able to get my workout in tonight when I got home from work. Rowing uses all those muscles! I may use them more than I'm supposed to but it works for me.

I mostly spent my evening at work reading my book. I'm almost done! I think I will go check on dinner and get my book...
I really like my Free Will horoscope for this week.Having discovered I can read the minds of animals, I've started a new sideline as a ghostwriter. Here's an excerpt from an interview I did with Prestige, a potbellied pig born under the sign of Gemini. Brezsny: What do you like best about being a potbellied pig? Prestige: I'm greedy but cute. I get to eat like a pig, yet not be victimized by the negative judgments people usually project onto pigs. Brezsny: Is there anything you're worried about? Prestige: I need to make my caretaker understand that for the next few weeks we Geminis will need more than the usual amounts of food, love, presents, praise, attention, everything. Brezsny: Anything you'd like to say to my Gemini readers? Prestige: Don't let anybody make you feel guilty for wanting what you want.I had a short week this week. Which was nice since I only got a one day weekend last week. I was scheduled to work the Sunday to Thursday and Saturday and I didn't feel like working 6 days this week, especially since holiday pay and overtime pay don't stack. So I took Thursday off. It was kind of nice. Troian had to go in for a dental appointment and after dropping him off at the vet, I slept and did stuff around the house. Later in the evening, Kevin and Chrysoula and Robin came to pick me up so we could go out for pizza and beer/mixed drinks. It was pretty fun, though we were disappointed to find out that the happy hour appetizer specials we were hoping for were only allowed in the bar area, which we couldn't take Robin into. Heh.

Robin even seemed to have a good time which doesn't always happen when we go out. In fact, he had a total breakdown the last time we went to this restaurant but he was pretty good this time. We stopped at Target and picked up some cheap coloring/activity books that he'd enjoy (letters and numbers and stuff) and Chrysoula and Kevin colored with him (I was on the inside of the booth, so I couldn't participate). Kevin and I tried a few of their mixed drinks (with mixed success) and then we all went back to their house and played Rock Band. Well, Robin slept. :) Eventually, I got a ride home.

We had planned for them to come over and go swimming on Friday. It was supposed to be in the 80s in the Seattle area but as I've said before my place is a little on the cool side. We didn't end up swimming but we had a little BBQ and hung out outside. They said it was indeed quite a few degrees cooler out at the BBQ area here than at their place.

Saturday I had to work! It was pretty quiet. I spent most of the evening reading some SOPs. See, next week I am going to get my orientation to one of our satellite labs (UDL, University District Lab) and I have to brush up on a few things that I will be running into there a lot but don't really run into at Central. Actually, there's been quite a few things going on for me at work.

I got picked to do the CAP survey (the College of American Pathologists is the lab accreditation organization and they send out tests for labs to do every once in a while). I made myself a little crazy with it because they didn't give me much notice about it and then I was taking it more seriously than I needed to because I got it confused with our in-house competency tests.

And the week after I finished off the CAP survey I got notice about my 6 month competency. There's a written and a practical portion. I got most of the written stuff done in one night but the stuff I held off on was confusing. I think I have a tendency to overthink things sometimes. :) I guess we'll see! I did the practical portion on Wednesday and then managed to finish off the written portion and turned it all in. So of course I have no results yet. I'm sure I did fine, but it's a little stressy.

So. Today we had thought about doing the swimming thing but we've all had a busy weekend and didn't feel up to it. I've spent the day doing chores pretty much. Picking up library books, doing and putting away laundry, cleaning up a little, organizing a little. Poking my HD Tivo, which seems to be randomly rebooting itself and sometimes hanging up when that happens and so it is missing recording things. Annoying.

All in all, a pretty good weekend. My apartment is pretty clean! The second bedroom is more of a mess than before because I was looking for something but, meh, you can't have it all. The rest of it is in pretty good shape, though.

Oh, boy, I gotta go find dinner now! And put on a sweater. Sheesh. It was in the mid-80s today and the indoor temp got up to 71 but now at ~11 pm? It's chilly in here again and my tank top is not keeping my arms warm.
